PineBurst is a browser game about a squirrel who defends the hollow. This policy explains what information the game handles, what it never handles, and what choices you have. It is written in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, write to the contact address above and we will answer.
This policy covers the web versions of PineBurst wherever we publish them, including on our own website, on itch.io, on CrazyGames, and on Poki. When we release the game for Android or iOS we will update this policy first and change the version number above.
1. Who may play
PineBurst is intended for players aged 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. The game asks for no name, no email address, no date of birth and no account, so there is nothing for a child to enter. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us information through a crash report or an analytics event, write to the contact address and we will delete it.
2. The short version
- The game never asks who you are. There is no account, no login, no name, no email, no phone number and no precise location.
- Your game save stays on your own device in your browser's storage.
- The game sends us a small number of gameplay counts and crash reports so that we can see whether the tutorial works and fix errors. Those reports carry a random install number. We cannot connect that number to you, but the law treats it as a pseudonymous identifier, so this policy treats it as personal data and you can switch the sending off in Settings.
- On advertising portals such as CrazyGames and Poki, the portal shows the advertisements and handles any consent prompt. The game itself contains no advertising network of its own.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers named below.
3. What the game stores on your device
The game uses your browser's local storage (a small store that belongs to this website in your browser) for:
- your game save (progress, unlocked weapons, currencies, settings);
- a backup copy of the save that the game makes before it refuses to load a save from a newer version of the game;
- a random install number (see section 4);
- a short buffer of analytics events waiting to be sent, when sending is switched on.
The save and the settings are strictly necessary to play, because a game that forgets your progress is not the game you asked for. The install number and the event buffer are not necessary to play; they exist only for the statistics in section 4, and the "Share play statistics" switch in Settings turns them off and clears them.
The game sets no cookies of its own. Clearing your browser's site data for the page you play on deletes everything above. The Settings screen also offers "Reset save", which deletes the save and the backup on that device, and "Reset install number", which replaces the random install number with a new one.
If you play on a portal that offers its own player storage, such as CrazyGames when you are signed in to a CrazyGames account, the game may also keep a copy of your save in that portal's storage so that your progress follows you to another device. That copy is held by the portal under the portal's own privacy policy. The game never overwrites a newer save on your device with an older copy from the portal.
4. What the game sends to us
When "Share play statistics" is switched on in Settings (it is on in published builds and can be switched off at any time), the game sends the following to a server we operate on Cloudflare:
A random install number. When the game first runs on a device it draws a random number and keeps it in local storage. That number is not derived from your device, your browser, your network or any advertising identifier, and it is not shared with any advertising network. It lets us count players and tell one crash from another. Because it recognises the same installation over time, data-protection law treats it as a pseudonymous identifier rather than anonymous data, and so do we. You can replace it at any time from Settings, and the old number is then never used again.
Six kinds of event. The game sends only these:
| Event | When it is sent | What it contains |
| --- | --- | --- |
| game opened | the game starts | install number, game version, platform name (for example "itch" or "crazygames"), device class (phone, tablet or desktop), screen size class, graphics quality tier |
| tutorial finished | the player completes the tutorial | the same fields plus the time since the game opened, in seconds |
| Level 1 cleared | the player clears the first Level | the same fields plus the time since the game opened, in seconds |
| Level 5 cleared | the player clears the fifth Level | the same fields plus the time since the game opened, in seconds |
| advertisement watched | the player finishes a rewarded advertisement | the same fields plus which in-game offer it was (for example "revive" or "double coins"); nothing about the advertisement itself |
| crash | the game hits an error it did not expect | the same fields plus the error message, up to three lines of code location, the name of the screen and the Level id. Crash reports never include free text typed by the player, because the game has no text entry. The game sends at most five crash reports per session. |
We do not store your IP address. The server that receives these events runs on Cloudflare, and Cloudflare processes the connection (including the IP address it arrives from) as our service provider under Cloudflare's own privacy policy; we do not read or keep that address in our records.
There is no other tracking. The game has no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, no advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics libraries.
5. Why we use that information
We use the events above to:
- see whether new players finish the tutorial and the first Levels, so that we can fix the parts of the game that lose people;
- count how many rewarded advertisements are watched, so that we can reconcile the advertising portal's payment reports;
- find and fix crashes.
We do not build profiles, we do not target advertising, and we do not combine these events with any other data source.
6. Advertising
On advertising-supported portals, the portal's own software shows the advertisements. That means:
- on CrazyGames, advertisements are served by CrazyGames and its advertising partners under the CrazyGames privacy policy, and CrazyGames shows any consent prompt that your region requires;
- on Poki, advertisements are served by Poki and its partners under the Poki privacy policy, which also handles consent;
- on itch.io and on our own website there are no advertisements in the game.
Every advertisement in PineBurst is optional. The game can be finished without watching a single one; advertisements only offer conveniences such as an extra life, doubled Coins at the end of a run, or a free re-roll of upgrade cards. When an advertisement is playing, the game pauses and mutes itself, and it never passes the portal any information about you beyond what the portal's own software collects.
The game contains no advertising network of its own. When we add mobile versions with an advertising network such as Google AdMob, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your permission inside the app before any advertising identifier is used.
7. Service providers and where data goes
We share information only with the following providers, and only for the purposes above:
| Provider | What they do for us | Their policy |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | receives and stores the anonymous events in section 4 on our behalf | https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/ |
| itch.io (Leaf Corcoran) | hosts the game page and the game files when you play there | https://itch.io/docs/legal/privacy-policy |
| CrazyGames (Maxflow BV) | hosts the game, serves advertisements and offers optional player storage when you play there | https://www.crazygames.com/privacy-policy |
| Poki B.V. | hosts the game and serves advertisements when you play there | https://poki.com/en/privacy |
Each host also collects its own information about your visit under its own policy, exactly as it does for every other game on its site. We do not receive that information.
Cloudflare stores our events on its global network, which may place them outside the country you play from, including in the United States. Cloudflare provides the contractual protections that United Kingdom and European Union law require for such transfers.
8. How long we keep it
- Analytics events and crash reports are stored in Cloudflare Analytics Engine, which keeps data for three months and then deletes it automatically. We keep no separate longer-lived copy except totals (for example "players who cleared Level 5 this week") that contain no install numbers.
- The game save, its backup and the install number stay on your device until you delete them or clear your browser's site data.
- Portal save copies are kept by the portal under the portal's policy.
9. Your choices and rights
Everyone can:
- switch "Share play statistics" off in Settings, which stops every event and clears the local buffer;
- play without ever watching an advertisement;
- replace the install number from Settings, which disconnects every future event from every past one;
- delete all local data with "Reset save" in Settings or by clearing your browser's site data;
- write to us with questions.
Because we cannot identify you. The events we hold are keyed only by the random install number. We have no way to look up which install number belongs to which person, so we cannot retrieve, correct or delete "your" records on request unless you send us your install number from the Settings screen. If you do, we will delete every event carrying that number within 30 days and confirm by email.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, and the right to complain to your data protection authority. Our legal basis for the events in section 4 is our legitimate interest in keeping the game working and improving it, balanced against the minimal and pseudonymous nature of the data, the fact that nothing identifies you, and the switch that lets you stop it at any time. The random install number is a pseudonymous identifier; we treat it as personal data for the purpose of your rights even though we cannot link it to you. Where the law of your country requires your consent before a game stores statistics identifiers in your browser, the first-run notice and the Settings switch are how you give or withhold it.
If you are in California. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information. Our business is well below the thresholds at which the California Consumer Privacy Act applies, but the rights above are available to you regardless.
10. Security
The game is delivered over HTTPS wherever we publish it, the event server accepts only the six event types above and rejects anything else, and no server we run holds an account, a password or a payment detail, because the game has none.
11. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will change the version number and the "Last updated" date at the top, and the game's Settings screen will link to the current version. Substantial changes, such as adding an advertising network to a mobile version, will be announced on the game's store page before they take effect.
